Rebate: Smart Irrigation Controllers

Conventional irrigation controllers typically call for longer irrigation runtimes than your landscaping actually needs. With smart controllers that self-adjust based on local weather data and/or soil moisture readings, your irrigation system can respond to local soil conditions.

These smart irrigation controllers are easy to install and can help you reduce water use, save money and reduce the hassle of adjusting your controller.

How Does it Work?

  1. Purchase a smart controller from the approved WaterSense product search on the EPA’s website. Note: Smart hose and faucet timers are not eligible in this rebate program.

  2. Install the Smart Controller according to manufacturer’s directions and activate the Smart features.

  3. Submit your completed application below or, complete the Zone 7 Smart Irrigation Controller Rebate Application and submit it along with a copy of your receipt within 60 days of purchase.

  4. Provide a picture of your newly installed controller along with a screenshot of the programming.

Application must be submitted after installation is completed.

How Much is the Rebate?

The maximum rebate is currently up to 50% of the customer costs with a maximum rebate of:

  • Up to $75 for single-family residences
  • Up to $100 for multi-family residences
  • Up to $3,000 for commercial, industrial, and institutional properties

Project Eligibility Requirements

  • You must be a water customer in good standing with Livermore Municipal Water, Dublin-San Ramon Services District or the City of Pleasanton.

  • Your property must have a fully operating and maintained in-ground irrigation system that uses potable water and you must be replacing an existing controller.

  • Applicants with single-family residences must have a minimum of 500 square feet of well-maintained lawn and at least four active irrigation stations.

  • Each property is eligible for only one smart controller rebate.

  • Property owner must agree to a post-inspection if requested.

  • For commercial and multi-family accounts: each site must have dedicated irrigation metering or landscape sub-metering to measure all landscape water use.

  • All existing irrigation stations on site must be converted to a smart controller.

  • Controller must remain installed for at least two years.

  • Rebates will be issued as a credit to your water bill.

  • Sales tax, shipping, installation, programming costs and other fees are not rebated.

  • Funding is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Zone 7 Water Agency reserves the right to deny any application that does not meet all requirements.

  • Zone 7 Water Agency is not responsible for damage that may occur to participant’s property as a result of this program.

APPLICATION

Zone 7 Water Agency (Zone 7) and your local water retailer (City of Livermore, City of Pleasanton or Dublin San Ramon Services District)—collectively “Agencies”— are offering a rebate up to $75, for the purchase of a qualifying Smart Irrigation Controller. This program is valid until funds are exhausted or as determined by the Agencies.

PROGRAMS TERMS & CONDITIONS

I, the undersigned, understand that this is a limited, first-come/first-served, one-time program, that rebates are given only for projects for which applications are approved and that ZONE 7 is entitled to deny any application that does not meet program requirements. I have voluntarily determined to participate in ZONE 7’s Smart Irrigation Controller Program. I agree that ZONE 7 may visit the premises and verify existing conditions and that the installation has been performed. By virtue of these inspections, I understand that ZONE 7 makes no determination with respect to whether materials and equipment are free of defects, the quality of the workmanship, or the suitability of the premises, materials or equipment for the installation. I also understand that the installation of a Smart Controller may not result in lower water bills. If this Application is approved by ZONE 7 and the work proceeds, I agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless ZONE 7, its directors, officers, agents and employees against any and all loss, liability, expense, claims, suits and damages, including attorneys’ fees, arising out of or resulting from the installation of a Smart Controller. I authorize my water retailer to make water consumption data available to Zone 7 for the purpose of measuring the success of these programs in conserving water. I agree to a pre- and/or post-installation inspection, upon request.
