New Monitoring Well at Ken Mercer Sports Park

Post

In a continuing effort to supply the Tri-Valley with safe, reliable water that surpasses state and federal drinking water standards, Zone 7 is installing an additional monitoring well to serve as an early detection system for Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) for the neighboring water supply wells in the area.

Keeping Your Groundwater Safe

Zone 7 is the Groundwater Sustainability Agency for the Livermore Valley Groundwater Basin. As part of the groundwater basin management we maintain a groundwater monitoring network of over 200 wells. The wells are used to assess groundwater elevations and water quality.

The need for a new monitoring well to act as a sentinel well for the supply wells located adjacent to the sports park was identified. This monitoring well location will act as an early warning system to detect any PFAS in the groundwater before they reach the drinking water supply wells.
